Fresh Connections receives grants

Fresh Connections Co-op has received two grants in the last month to support educational opportunities at the co-op. The Kossuth County Community Foundation provided a grant of $2,400 for consumer classes and IDALS (Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship) recently awarded a grant of nearly $4,000 for the promotion of locally grown crops such as vegetables, fruits, honey, tree nuts and other items. Fresh Connections Coop Update September 2008

Things are picking up pace for the Coop this Fall. Our membership numbers are above 100 and our future location has been secured. Please read this Press Release for more information.

As we near the opening of the store we are looking for extra help from current members in recruitment of new members. Our goal is to have double the number of members that we currently have by opening. Our next upcoming membership event will be held on Saturday, October 4. We will be walking the Band Day Parade and then immediately following parade, we will be hosting an Open House at the future location (next to Gallery Brew.)

Summer Activities 2008

Fresh Connections will be bringing in the end of summer with some fun opportunities to come out and be involved. On Sunday, August 10 from 12-5 will be serving up some locally produced goodies during our Meat and Greet BBQ; enjoy the day at the Water’s Edge Nature Center with music, environmental education, and membership opportunities! We will be returning to the Thursday Family Fun Night on August 21 with our Second Annual Salsa Contest! For more information on any of our upcoming events, please check out the Events page!

First Annual Meeting on April 17, 2008 7 p.m. Congregational Church, Algona

All members/owners in good standing of Fresh Connections Co-op are invited to join in our first annual meeting, scheduled for Thursday, April 17 at 7 p.m. at the Congregational Church in Algona (on the corner of Moore and McGregor). Children are welcome and will have access to a playroom during the meeting. For members with more than one adult in the household-all household members are welcome at the meeting, but you will receive only one vote per household. If you purchased a membership share for the co-op, then you are a member and owner of the store. The steering committee has much to share and we hope you join us for this first annual meeting. Brownie sundaes and bars will be served. The meeting is expected to take about an hour.
